General Information
General Information on Renting a VehicleThe person to whom the vehicle is issued assumes personal responsibility for the vehicle and its contents, to include tools, jack, accessories, etc. Any damage or missing items will be charged back to the customer or their department as a matter of policy unless adequate explanation is provided. Please report any damage or lost items. Transportation Services vehicles are intended to provide safe, convenient, on-road transportation of passengers. Even though we will remove seats from some vans on special request (there is a $10.00 fee), hauling some forms of cargo, livestock, off-road driving, etc. is generally considered an abuse of the vehicle and the customer will be held responsible for any resulting unusual costs for cleaning or repair. ONLY those Transportation Services vehicles equipped with a towing package may be used for towing.
Supplemental Insurance
Transportation Services is pleased to offer supplemental insurance for our customers for just a dollar a day (adjusted annually). The purpose of this insurance is to cover any damage to Transportation Services vehicles not covered by risk management because of the $1000 deductible. At the time of rental the customer will be asked to accept or decline this optional coverage. Departments are encouraged to accept this insurance in order to avoid being caught by surprise with unbudgeted expenses generated by an accident. Details are available on request. Please read the requirements for activating coverage and validating a claim, which are included in your rental packet materials. Failure to follow the proper procedures will void this coverage.
Trips into Mexico
Any trip into Mexico MUST be fully insured by a Mexican insurance company prior to ANY travel across the border, including Juarez. Insurance must be obtained from Transportation Services. With adequate notice, normally three or four days, Transportation Services can provide Mexico insurance at no charge for the premiums. This coverage is available through a blanket policy provided by the New Mexico Risk Management Division. There is a $10 fee for providing the necessary documents to travel in Mexico with a state owned vehicle.
Traffic and Parking Tickets
Any traffic or parking citation is the driver's responsibility. All occupants of a Transportation Services vehicle are required by state law to wear seat belts.
Lost and Found
Be sure to check carefully and retrieve all of your personal belongings prior to returning a Transportation Services vehicle. Transportation Services is not responsible for any personal property left behind. When something is found in a vehicle, we will tag it and keep it for two weeks before disposing of it.
